History

The Schnorf brothers began producing sulphuric acid, iron sulphate and copper sulphate in Uetikon in 1818. Basic chemicals and fertilizers were the main sources of income until the 1970s. Today, CPH's Chemistry division in Switzerland, the USA and China primarily manufactures molecular sieves and silica gels.

The Perlen paper factory, located between Lucerne and Zug, was founded in 1873. Today two paper machines produce around 550,000 tons of newsprint and magazine paper a year. Paper machine 7 (PM 7), which started up operation in 2010, is currently one of the world's most state-of-the-art paper machines for newsprint.

The Packaging division was created with the establishment of a coating production plant in Perlen in 1962. Today, Perlen Packaging, with sites in Switzerland, Germany, the USA and China, manufactures PVC mono-films and coated PVdC films for the pharmaceuticals market.

In 2001, the various business divisions were pooled together under the umbrella of CPH Chemie + Papier Holding AG, and have since been listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (CPHN).
