The price for waste paper collapses

Berner Zeitung - The price of waste paper stands on a multi-year low. If the price continues to fall, the disposal of paper is subject to charges - same as with cardboard.

Alain Probst, Managing Director of Altpapier Service Schweiz AG, looks at the vast quantities of waste paper piling up in Utzenstorf. «We are currently experiencing a drastic backlog», he says. This has two reasons. One is the stricter import policy of China and other Asian countries. The second reason is the shrinking newspaper market. Nevertheless, for Alain Probst it is crystal clear: Even if the waste paper has almost no value anymore - it must be recycled. «It can’t be that paper simply ends up in a waste incinerator.»
