Bernhard Schaub, first CPH Board Chairman, deceased

Dr. Bernhard Schaub, the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of CPH Chemie + Papier Holding AG, has passed away at the age of 90. Dr. Schaub was responsible for the company’s foundation in 1971, and continued to serve as its Board Chairman until 1999.

Perlen, 16 June 2020 – Dr. Bernhard Schaub, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of CPH Chemie + Papier Holding AG, has died at the age of 90. Dr. Schaub served the CPH Group for 35 years, and was instrumental in the creation and adoption of the Group’s present holding structure.

In his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chemische Fabrik Uetikon, it was Bernhard Schaub who initiated the foundation of CPH Chemie + Papier Holding AG in 1971. That year, Chemie Uetikon and its chemistry business operations generated annual revenues of some CHF 24 million. But over the following years the new company was to diversify via acquisitions into new business segments.

The Perlen paper factory was also assimilated into the new holding structure through an equity exchange with the owning family. And 1992 brought the installation of the new company’s first dedicated Group Executive Management, which assumed operational responsibility for the Group’s business activities.

Bernhard Schaub was the sixth generation to represent the founding family’s continued interests in the CPH Group, and did so with great vision and commitment. By the time of his departure from its Board of Directors in 1999, CPH Chemie + Papier Holding AG consisted of the Uetikon and Perlen Groups and was generating annual revenues of some CHF 370 million.

Bernhard Schaub passed away on 8 June 2020. He was 90 years of age.
