Perlen Papier celebrates 150 years
400 invited guests, a party for the employees and an open day for more than 8000 visitors: this is how Perlen Papier AG celebrates its 150th anniversary on September 8 and 9.
“Today I would like to recognize not only your existence and achievements as the number one producer of high quality magazine and press papers in Switzerland over the last 150 years, but also your commitment to the environment and sustainability. It is a remarkable testimony that you have been able to maintain your position as the only remaining paper mill of graphic papers in Switzerland,” said Fabian Peter, President of the Government of the Canton of Lucerne in his greeting message.
“Since its foundation, Perlen Papier has been innovative, has always invested farsightedly in the latest technologies and today operates one of the most modern paper mills in Europe. It has also been a pioneer in social terms, founding a company health insurance fund as early as 1873 and building Switzerland’s first workers’ housing colony in 1913,” said Peter Schildknecht, CEO of the CPH Group, in the celebratory address.
Peter Schaub, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CPH Group said in his speech: “Today, let us celebrate the world of paper and the art of papermaking with confidence and joy. The Perlen paper mill is extremely competitive and we are proud of our high-tech facilities and our wonderful and capable employees. Perlen Papier will be around as long as there will be print media and print advertising, so probably for a very, very long time.”
A book has also been published to mark the anniversary: “Die Papieri” describes a Swiss economic success story, enriched with countless anecdotes and moving moments from the past 150 years.
